White House on BRICS: US Focuses on Global Partnerships, Not Rivalry
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that the United States is committed to building strong global partnerships and does not view BRICS as a geopolitical rival. During a press briefing, she highlighted the US’s ongoing collaboration with countries like India, South Africa, and Brazil. Jean-Pierre stated, “We’re focused on working with partners around the world to build the deepest coalitions possible to achieve our shared goals.”
The BRICS Summit, chaired by Russia, is scheduled for October 22-23 in Kazan. The theme is “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.” Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s view that BRICS is a non-Western group, not anti-Western. Putin noted BRICS’ growing role in the global economy, with its share of global GDP increasing significantly over the years.
Jean-Pierre also addressed concerns about the US-UAE partnership on AI technologies, assuring that the collaboration is progressing positively. She mentioned President Biden’s executive action on AI to ensure safeguards and protections.
BRICS, originally formed by Russia, India, and China in 2006, expanded to include South Africa in 2010. In 2024, it further expanded with the addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
