Tripura Congress Meeting Addresses State Challenges

Meeting Overview

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) convened a meeting at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, led by Sudip Roy Barman, an MLA and permanent invitee to the All India Congress Committee’s Working Committee. The meeting included TPCC office bearers, district Congress presidents, and leaders from various state Congress wings.

Key Issues Discussed

The meeting focused on the current situation in Tripura, highlighting recent communal and ethnic violence in areas like Gandacherra, Ranibazar, and others. The Congress accused the state government of failing to address these issues and criticized the Home Department and Chief Minister Manik Saha for their inaction.

Concerns Raised

Additional concerns included rising prices, unemployment, and the BJP government’s inability to provide jobs for educated youth, leading to increased substance abuse. The Congress also claimed that the state police force has been politicized, hindering effective action against drug trafficking.

Proposed Actions

To address these challenges, the Committee decided to organize a ‘Solidarity March’ in each district, starting on October 31, National Solidarity Day, and continuing until November 19, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This proposal was unanimously approved.
