Himachal Pradesh CM and Sanjauli Mosque Leaders Agree on Demolition Amid Tensions

In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, a dispute has arisen over the alleged illegal construction of the Sanjauli Mosque, leading to tensions in the area. Various organizations have marched to promote communal harmony. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the Imams of the Sanjauli Mosque support demolishing the illegal structure. He mentioned that the mosque leaders themselves want the demolition because it is illegal.

Lucky Mohammad Latif Negi, Chairman of the Sanjauli Mosque case committee, announced that the demolition of the illegal portion would begin with the roof, following permission from the Himachal Waqf Board and a court order from the Municipal Corporation Shimla. Negi noted that the demolition would take at least five months due to winter conditions and funding shortages. He expressed that while people donate to build mosques, no one is contributing to demolish them.

Negi also mentioned that the mosque committee had written to the Board of Trustees for permission to start the demolition, as he is the owner. Although permission was granted, funding was not, which will delay the process. The court has given a two-month deadline, but Negi plans to request an extension.
