In Tlaxcala, Mexico, Indian archer Deepika Kumari won a silver medal in the women’s recurve category at the Archery World Cup final. The 30-year-old, who also competed in the Paris Olympics, was defeated by China’s Li Jiaman 0-6 in the final match.

Journey to the Final

Deepika began her journey in the quarterfinals by defeating Yang Xiaolei, a teammate of Jiaman from the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a 6-0 score. She then won a close match against Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia, a bronze medalist from the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics.

Deepika’s Achievements

This silver medal marks Deepika’s sixth medal in the Archery World Cup finals and her first since becoming a mother in 2022. She has previously finished as a runner-up five times and won a bronze in 2018.

Other Indian Competitors

Five Indian archers participated in the World Cup final. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, an Asian Games champion, was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In the men’s compound category, Prathamesh Fuge narrowly missed a bronze medal, losing to Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands. Olympians Dhiraj Bommadevara and Priyansh were also knocked out in the quarterfinals.
