David Cameron Highlights India’s Role in Russia-Ukraine Mediation and UNSC Reforms

In New Delhi, former UK Prime Minister David Cameron spoke at the NDTV World Summit about India’s potential role as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that any mediation should respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. Cameron acknowledged India’s credibility in this role and highlighted India’s advocacy for peace through dialogue, as demonstrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine.

Cameron also stressed the need for reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), advocating for India to have a permanent seat. He praised India’s involvement in global institutions like the Quad and G7, noting India’s contributions to economic growth, democracy, and green technology.

India has long sought a permanent UNSC seat to better represent developing nations, gaining international support. The UNSC currently includes five permanent members: China, the UK, France, Russia, and the US, along with ten non-permanent members.

Cameron described India as a “shining example” of economic growth, democracy, and green transition, essential for addressing global challenges like climate change.
