BJP’s Tarun Chugh Criticizes J&K CM Omar Abdullah Over Statehood Controversy

In New Delhi, BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh has criticized Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for politicizing the issue of restoring statehood to the region. Chugh stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are committed to restoring statehood, but accused Abdullah of creating unnecessary controversy.

On October 19, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, led by CM Omar Abdullah, passed a resolution urging the Union Government to restore the region’s statehood. The Cabinet authorized Abdullah to discuss the matter with PM Modi and the Government of India. An official spokesperson mentioned that Abdullah plans to visit New Delhi soon to meet with the Prime Minister and Union Ministers.

People’s Democratic Party leader Waheed Parra commented on social media, expressing disappointment that Abdullah’s resolution focused only on statehood and not on Article 370, which was a key promise during elections.

The Cabinet also decided to summon the Legislative Assembly in Srinagar on November 4 and recommended the appointment of Mubarik Gul as Protem Speaker to administer the oath to elected members on October 21. The NC-Congress alliance recently won the assembly polls in J&K, with JKNC securing 42 seats and Congress winning six.
