Delhi Government Tackles Severe Air Pollution in Anand Vihar

On October 20, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Atishi and Environment Minister Gopal Rai, identified buses from Uttar Pradesh as a major cause of poor air quality in Anand Vihar. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the area reached a severe level of 454. The government has implemented strict anti-pollution measures, including forming 99 teams for dust control and deploying over 325 smog guns.

Inspection and Measures

Atishi and Rai personally inspected Anand Vihar, emphasizing the need for discussions with the UP government to address pollution from buses. They highlighted efforts like road repairs and encroachment removal to reduce dust. Rai urged the UP government to conduct water sprinkling at the Kaushambi bus depot to mitigate pollution.

Yamuna River Pollution

Both leaders expressed concern over rising pollution in the Yamuna River, attributing it to untreated effluents from Haryana and UP. They assured ongoing cleaning efforts, especially in preparation for the Chhath pooja.

Current AQI Levels

Other areas in Delhi also reported high AQI levels, with Dwarka at 311, ITO at 232, Jahangirpuri at 350, and Nehru Park at 254. The Central Pollution Control Board warns that severe AQI levels can affect healthy individuals and seriously impact those with pre-existing conditions.
