Arab League Supports Lebanon’s Sovereignty
Ahmed Aboul Gheit Backs Prime Minister Najib Mikati
The Arab League has declared that the Lebanese government is the only body authorized to negotiate for the country, aiming for an immediate ceasefire and the full implementation of Resolution 1701. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, expressed his full support for Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s stance on this issue.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that the Arab League’s position is clear in all its resolutions, affirming Lebanon’s complete sovereignty in making its critical decisions. He stated, “There is no room for any party to impose guardianship, exert pressure, or override Lebanese sovereignty.”
He further highlighted the need for tangible support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stating that mere expressions of sympathy are not enough. Concrete actions are necessary to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people, which should not be exploited for political gain.
