Allegations Against the Governor

Edward Prabhakaran, a DVK district organizer, claimed that the Governor wants to change the state’s anthem and refuses to acknowledge important Tamil figures like Periyar and Ambedkar. He also accused the Governor of disrespecting the Tamil anthem by omitting lines that highlight Dravidian identity.

Political Reactions

The protests were sparked by an event where a distorted version of the anthem was played. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin demanded the Governor’s recall, accusing him of trying to destroy unity. Chief Minister MK Stalin also criticized the Governor, questioning his intentions and accusing him of disrespecting Tamil Nadu.

Governor’s Response

Governor RN Ravi responded by accusing the Chief Minister of making a racist remark and lowering the dignity of his office. He denied the allegations of disrespecting the anthem and called for a more respectful discourse.
