On October 19, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed his support for the Haryana Government and Supreme Court’s decision on sub-categorizing Scheduled Castes and Tribes. He shared his views on social media, emphasizing the importance of ensuring reservation benefits reach the underprivileged. Maurya stated that all parties must work towards uplifting sections of society that have been left behind, and opposition to this initiative is unacceptable. He highlighted the commitment of BJP governments, including Haryana, to societal upliftment under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Haryana’s Decision on SC/ST Sub-Categorization

On October 18, the Haryana cabinet approved the Haryana Scheduled Castes Commission’s recommendations to divide reservations for Scheduled Castes, following the Supreme Court’s decision from August 1, 2024. This move aims to promote equality of opportunity, with a common merit list determining inter-seniority among Scheduled Caste candidates in Haryana. The state will also update its Scheduled Caste list in accordance with Central Government notifications.

BJP’s Membership Campaign

Deputy CM Maurya also discussed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s nationwide membership campaign, known as ‘Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024,’ which began on September 2. He expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the campaign under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, aiming to achieve its objectives.
