Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi Discusses Language Acceptance Amidst Controversy
On Friday, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi addressed the issue of language acceptance in the state, amidst opposition from the Tamil Nadu government regarding the Hindi Month celebrations. He noted that while Hindi initially faced resistance, many students in Tamil Nadu have become proficient in the language. Governor Ravi emphasized that Hindi should be celebrated alongside other languages, not seen as an imposition.
He expressed concern over attempts to isolate Tamil Nadu from the rest of India, describing such efforts as “toxic and separatist.” He highlighted that while 27 states in India have adopted a three-language formula, Tamil Nadu’s resistance to other languages hampers communication and unity.
Governor Ravi also discussed the role of Doordarshan in providing accurate information, criticizing narratives created over the past 50 years. He asserted that Doordarshan prioritizes national interest in its programming.
In response, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticized the governor, questioning his actions and calling for his recall. Stalin accused the governor of insulting the unity of the country and the sentiments of Tamil Nadu’s people.
