Taiwan Urges China to Rethink Actions on ‘Taiwan Independence Separatists’
In a recent development, Taiwan has called on China to reconsider its approach after the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) in Beijing reported receiving numerous tips about individuals labeled as ‘diehard Taiwan independence separatists.’ Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), responsible for cross-strait affairs, emphasized that incorrect actions by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will lead to unfavorable outcomes. The MAC urged the CCP to foster positive cross-strait relations.
The statement from MAC was in response to comments by Chen Binhua, spokesperson for TAO, who mentioned that a reporting system for ‘diehard Taiwan independence separatists’ had been established, resulting in hundreds of tips from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Chen noted that Chinese agencies would thoroughly investigate these reports.
The TAO’s website lists 12 individuals, including Taiwan’s Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, businessman Robert Tsao, and Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Puma Shen, as ‘diehard Taiwan independence separatists.’ Chen described actions against these individuals as just, aiming to uphold national sovereignty and protect interests on both sides of the strait.
However, the MAC dismissed the list’s significance, stating it holds no real meaning regardless of the number of names included.
