FBI Seeks Vikash Yadav for Alleged Plot Against US Citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

The FBI has issued a wanted poster for Vikash Yadav, a former Indian government employee, for his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US citizen and Khalistani terrorist. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed Yadav is no longer employed by the Indian government. Yadav, born in Haryana, India, used the alias “Amanat” to communicate with his co-conspirator, Nikhil Gupta, who has been extradited to the US.

According to the US Justice Department, Yadav is charged with directing a murder-for-hire scheme from India. The DEA foiled the assassination attempt in 2023, tracing it back to Yadav. The plot involved hiring a hitman to kill a US citizen in New York City. Yadav allegedly used his government position to access confidential information for the plot.

FBI Director Christopher Wray emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting individuals exercising their First Amendment rights. The US Attorney’s Office charged Yadav and Gupta with murder-for-hire and conspiracy, with potential penalties of up to 20 years in prison. The case highlights international cooperation in addressing transnational repression.
