External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar opened the ‘Silent Conversation’ tribal art exhibition in New Delhi, urging people to support tribal artists by purchasing their artwork, especially during festive seasons like Diwali. He highlighted the importance of recognizing and empowering these artists.
Jaishankar mentioned the diplomatic practice of gifting, noting that India showcases its heritage abroad through diverse gifts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently presented crafted gifts to leaders at the 21st India-ASEAN Summit, including a silver lamp and a Patan Patola scarf, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage.
Last year, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the exhibition, emphasizing a united approach to climate change. The exhibition featured 43 artists from 12 Indian states, showcasing styles like Gond and Warli, and highlighted the connection between tribal communities and wildlife.
The ‘Silent Conversation’ exhibition aims to create a sustainable market for tribal art, providing livelihoods for marginalized communities and promoting cultural exchange and tiger conservation.
