Wayanad Lok Sabha Bypolls: Sathyan Mokeri vs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced that Sathyan Mokeri will contest against Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls. This decision was confirmed by CPI state Secretary Binoy Viswam. Sathyan Mokeri previously contested the Wayanad Lok Sabha election in 2014.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s candidacy was approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Raebareli in the general elections, chose to represent Raebareli. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed confidence in his sister’s victory, stating that the people of Wayanad would have two members of Parliament from the Gandhi family.
The Wayanad bypolls are scheduled for November 13, coinciding with bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states and the first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand. If Priyanka Gandhi wins, she will join Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as the third MP from the Gandhi family in the current Parliament. The election results will be announced on November 23.
