Tariq Anwar Criticizes Bihar’s Liquor Ban After Tragic Incidents
In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Congress MP and election observer Tariq Anwar criticized the liquor ban policy in Bihar, calling it a failure. He stated that despite the ban, illegal liquor delivery continues, forcing the poor to consume dangerous alcohol. This follows a tragedy where 25 people died from consuming spurious liquor in Siwan and Saran.
Bihar DGP Alok Raj reported 12 arrests related to the incident. Saran SP Kumar Ashish revealed the liquor contained industrial spirit, and investigations are ongoing. Local police have been suspended, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting raids, recovering 1,650 liters of alcohol.
Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir stated that families of the deceased must support the liquor ban to receive compensation. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
