Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal Praises New Justice Statue Design in Supreme Court
In Bikaner, Rajasthan, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal expressed his admiration for the newly unveiled justice statue at the Supreme Court. The statue, which now features open eyes and the Constitution of India instead of a sword, marks a significant change from its traditional design. Meghwal praised the update as a tribute to the country’s constitution and thanked the Chief Justice for the initiative.
Meghwal stated, “In some era, they said that justice is blind and that justice is served on the basis of the Constitution and the law. But when the judge gives justice, how can it be done without seeing?” He emphasized that the new design respects the constitution.
However, UBT Sena MP Sanjay Raut criticized the change, calling it a propaganda move by the BJP. Raut argued that the court’s role is to protect the constitution and questioned the intentions behind the statue’s redesign.
The Supreme Court of India unveiled the redesigned ‘Lady Justice’ statue, which now stands in the Judges’ Library. This change was commissioned under Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s guidance to symbolize that justice in India is not blind but fair to all.
Additionally, Chief Justice Chandrachud proposed Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor, with Khanna set to become the 51st Chief Justice of India upon government approval. His tenure will last until May 13, 2025.
