Samajwadi Party Seeks 12 Seats in Maharashtra Elections: Abu Azmi and Akhilesh Yadav’s Role

Samajwadi Party’s Demand in Maharashtra Elections

As the Maharashtra assembly elections approach, the Samajwadi Party (SP) is negotiating for 12 seats within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. SP Maharashtra Chief Abu Azmi emphasized the urgency of these discussions, stating that his recent post on X was a reminder to the alliance parties about the time-sensitive nature of the talks.

Abu Azmi’s Statement

Azmi clarified that his post was not an expression of dissatisfaction but a call for timely action. He highlighted the importance of including SP in candidate announcements, warning that excluding them would imply they are not considered part of the MVA. Azmi also mentioned the strong relationship between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, SP’s National President.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Position

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed optimism about securing more seats, noting the party’s previous success with two MLAs. He plans to visit Maharashtra to further these discussions with the INDIA bloc.

Alliance Dynamics

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar assured that the alliance remains open to SP, with plans to resolve seat-sharing issues within two days. The MVA, comprising Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena (UBT), aims to counter the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the upcoming elections.

Upcoming Elections

The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, 2024. In the previous 2019 elections, the MVA coalition won 154 out of 288 seats. This year, the alliance seeks to replicate its success from the Lok Sabha elections, where it secured 30 out of 48 seats.
