Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Highlights North-East Development in Meghalaya

On October 16, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar visited Shillong, Meghalaya, to participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Meghalaya Skill and Innovation Hub at the State Convention Centre. During his address, he emphasized the importance of the North-East region in India’s unity, economic progress, and cultural richness.

Dhankhar praised the Look East and Act East Policy for enhancing communication, connectivity, and airport development in the region. He expressed concerns about misinformation on public platforms and stressed the need for informed youth, calling them vital contributors to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The Vice-President highlighted the significance of skill development, noting the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and a budget of 60,000 crores for internships for 5 lakh young individuals over five years. He advocated for villages and semi-urban towns to become skill centers.

Dhankhar described Meghalaya as a heavenly place and suggested that tourism could drive its economy. He encouraged the use of skilled human resources to fully exploit the region’s natural gifts. The event was attended by Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Minister Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, and other dignitaries.
