Maharana Pratap Lok: Honoring the Brave King in Bhopal
In Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, a new memorial called ‘Maharana Pratap Lok’ is being constructed to honor the legendary Hindu Rajput King of Mewar, Maharana Pratap. This project follows the creation of Mahakal Lok in Ujjain and is located in the TT Nagar area, covering about four acres with a budget of approximately Rs 10 crores.
Project Announcement and Progress
The initiative was announced by the former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a program in Bhopal on May 22 of the previous year. He stated that the memorial would depict the heroic deeds of Maharana Pratap, his horse Chetak, and his seven associates to inspire future generations with their bravery.
Currently, about 70% of the construction is complete, with full completion expected by March next year. A significant feature of the Lok is a large statue of Maharana Pratap and his horse Chetak, showcasing his valorous tales and works.
Design and Cultural Significance
Brajesh Kumar Tiwari, Executive Engineer of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department, explained that the Lok is designed to reflect the cultural heritage of Maharana Pratap. It draws inspiration from the fort of Maharana Pratap in Kumbhalgarh and incorporates elements of Rajputana architecture in its boundary wall.
The 20-foot bronze statue, crafted by sculptor Neeraj Ahirwar, weighs around 2.5 tonnes and is valued at approximately Rs 35 lakhs. The statue is nearly complete, with only painting and finishing touches remaining, after six months of work by a team of 12 to 15 people.
