Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand Sees Over 40 Lakh Pilgrims
The annual Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is in full swing, with more than 40 lakh pilgrims visiting the sacred shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. On October 14 alone, 27,789 pilgrims embarked on the journey, with Kedarnath attracting the highest number of visitors at 11,309.
Efforts by the Government
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the challenges faced due to heavy rains in Kedarghati on July 31, which disrupted the trails. Despite these difficulties, the government swiftly restored the paths, ensuring the Yatra continued smoothly. CM Dhami emphasized the importance of a safe and well-organized pilgrimage, which is crucial for the state’s economy.
Yatra Statistics
As of September 30, 37,91,205 pilgrims had visited the Char Dham, compared to 56.13 lakh last year. The Yatra was delayed by 17 days this year, starting on May 10, and will continue until November. The pandemic affected the pilgrimage in 2020 and 2021, with significantly fewer visitors.
