EAM Jaishankar Visits Islamabad for 23rd SCO Meeting
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, to attend the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The event was held at the Nur Khan Airbase, where Jaishankar was warmly welcomed by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General for South Asia at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Children in traditional attire presented flowers to the guests, and a red carpet was rolled out to signify the importance of the event.
The two-day meeting, chaired by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is the second highest forum within the SCO. Pakistan assumed the rotating chair of the SCO CHG for 2023-24 during the previous meeting in Bishkek. Jaishankar shared his arrival in Islamabad on social media, expressing his participation in the meeting.
The 23rd SCO CHG meeting, set to begin on October 16, 2024, in Islamabad, will focus on the trade and economic agenda of the organization. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted India’s active engagement in the SCO format, with Jaishankar leading the Indian delegation.
