Goa CM Pramod Sawant Launches India’s First Vacuum Sewer System in Panaji

On Tuesday, Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated a new vacuum sewerage network in Panaji, aimed at improving infrastructure in low-lying areas. This innovative system, part of the Panaji Smart City Mission and AMRUT Project, is the first of its kind in India and costs Rs 8.5 crore. It will help manage challenges in high water table areas like Mala and St. Inez.

The project includes providing, installing, and maintaining the vacuum sewer network for five years, enhancing the city’s infrastructure and residents’ quality of life. CM Sawant expressed his gratitude to the Public Works and Sewerage Departments for their efforts.

Additionally, the central government approved Rs 557 crore for the 4-laning of a 9.6 km stretch from Ponda to Bhoma on NH-748. This project will improve connectivity between Panaji and Ponda, reduce congestion, and enhance safety by addressing accident-prone areas. CM Sawant thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support, emphasizing the government’s commitment to developing Goa’s infrastructure and economy.

4-laning -: 4-laning means expanding a road to have four lanes, two in each direction. This helps in reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety.
