The 23rd Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) is scheduled for October 16, 2024, in Islamabad, Pakistan. This annual meeting will focus on the trade and economic agenda of the SCO.

Key Participants

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation. He emphasized that his visit is solely for the SCO Summit 2024, not for discussing India-Pakistan relations. The meeting will be chaired by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Other notable attendees include Prime Minister Li Qiang of China, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin of Russia, and leaders from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran. Special guests include Foreign Ministers and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Turkmenistan, and the Prime Minister of Mongolia as an observer.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, China, aims to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation among member states in trade, economy, science, and technology, while ensuring regional peace and stability. Member countries include India, Iran, China, Pakistan, and Russia, with dialogue partners like Bahrain, Egypt, and UAE.
