Canada Expels Indian Diplomats Amid Tensions

On October 14, Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, accusing them of being part of an Indian government “campaign of violence.” In response, India summoned Canada’s Charge d’Affaires, Stewart Wheeler, to express that the accusations were baseless and unacceptable. India decided to withdraw its High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, and other diplomats, citing safety concerns due to the Trudeau Government’s actions.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government for allegedly supporting extremism and violence against India. The Ministry rejected Canada’s claims that Indian diplomats were “persons of interest” in an investigation, labeling them as politically motivated. India accused Trudeau of harboring hostility towards India and providing space for extremists to threaten Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.

The diplomatic tensions have been exacerbated by past incidents, including Trudeau’s allegations of India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which India has denied. The situation remains tense as both countries navigate these diplomatic challenges.

Diplomats -: Diplomats are people who represent their country in another country. They work to keep good relationships between the two countries, like friends who help each other.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau -: Justin Trudeau is the leader of Canada, like how we have a Prime Minister in India. He makes important decisions for his country.

Diplomatic challenges -: Diplomatic challenges are problems between countries that make it hard for them to work together. It’s like when two friends have a fight and find it difficult to get along.
