JSW Renew Energy and NTPC Sign Agreement for 700 MW Solar Project

JSW Renew Energy Thirteen Limited, a subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited for a 700 MW solar project. This project will connect through Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) and State Transmission Utility (STU) networks, providing power at Rs2.59 per kilowatt-hour for 25 years. Expected to be operational by June 2026, it is part of JSW Energy’s renewable energy expansion.

JSW Energy currently has a solar pipeline of 3.2 GW, with 2.0 GW already under PPAs. The company’s total generation capacity is 18.2 GW, including 7.7 GW operational and 2.1 GW in progress across wind, thermal, and hydro. The renewable energy pipeline stands at 8.3 GW. JSW Energy is also developing 16.2 GWh of storage capacity through battery and hydro-pumped storage projects, aiming for 20 GW generation and 40 GWh storage by 2030, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

JSW Energy Limited, part of the USD 24 billion JSW Group, is a leading private power producer in India. Founded in 2000, it has grown to a generation capacity of 7,726 MW, including thermal, wind, hydel, and solar projects. With ongoing projects and a vision to reach 20 GW by 2030, JSW Energy is a key player in India’s power sector.

Doubts Revealed

JSW Renew Energy -: JSW Renew Energy is a company in India that focuses on creating energy from renewable sources like the sun and wind. It is part of a larger company called JSW Energy.

NTPC -: NTPC Limited is a big company in India that produces electricity. It stands for National Thermal Power Corporation, and it helps provide power to many homes and businesses in India.

700 MW -: 700 MW stands for 700 Megawatts, which is a unit to measure how much electricity can be produced. It’s like saying how much power a big solar project can generate.

Power Purchase Agreement -: A Power Purchase Agreement is a contract where one company agrees to buy electricity from another company. In this case, JSW Renew Energy will sell the electricity it generates to NTPC.

Rs2.59 per kWh -: Rs2.59 per kWh means that for every unit of electricity (called a kilowatt-hour) that is used, it will cost Rs2.59. This is the price agreed upon for the electricity from the solar project.

18.2 GW -: 18.2 GW stands for 18.2 Gigawatts, which is a very large amount of electricity. It shows how much energy capacity JSW Energy currently has from all its projects.

Carbon neutrality -: Carbon neutrality means that a company or country is balancing the amount of carbon dioxide they release into the air with actions that remove the same amount. JSW Energy aims to do this by 2050 to help the environment.
