Heavy Rains Prompt School Closures and Work-from-Home Orders in Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts on October 15 due to heavy rain forecasts. This decision was made during a meeting led by Chief Minister MK Stalin. Additionally, IT employees in these districts are advised to work from home from October 15 to 18.
Preparedness Measures
The Chennai Corporation Commissioner reported that 990 pumps, 57 tractors with pump sets, 36 motorboats, and various other resources are ready for monsoon preparedness. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin confirmed the state’s readiness for the monsoon rains.
Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from October 12-16, with the heaviest downpours expected on October 14-15. An orange alert has been issued for these dates. A low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and move towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh.
