Mary Kom Inspires Young Boxers at REC National Talent Hunt in Rohtak
Indian boxing legend and Olympic medalist Mary Kom visited the Sports Authority of India (SAI) NBA in Rohtak, Haryana. She attended the semi-final matches of the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) Combined National Talent Hunt Programme. This event is designed to find and support future boxing stars from all over India.
According to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Mary Kom, a six-time world champion, interacted with the participants, offering them encouragement and advice. The REC National Talent Hunt Programme aims to expand the sport beyond traditional areas and discover new talent that can bring glory to the nation.
The Elite and Youth men and women winners from various talent hunt competitions are participating in this Combined Talent Hunt, which took place from October 6-13. The winners will join the National camp, a new initiative by BFI that has received a great response from boxing fans across the country. Elite boxers are competing in 12 weight categories, while Youth boxers compete in 10.
Mary Kom’s presence was a significant morale booster for the young participants. Following the Elite and Youth competitions, junior and sub-junior men and women will compete from October 15-22, with 13 and 14 weight categories respectively.
