India’s New Missile Testing Range Approved in Andhra Pradesh
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a new missile testing range in Andhra Pradesh. This decision supports the ongoing development of tactical missile systems by Indian defense researchers. The new range will be located in the Nagayalanka area and will facilitate the testing of various missile systems, including surface-to-air and anti-tank missiles.
In addition to the missile range, the CCS has also approved significant proposals for the armed forces. These include the acquisition of 31 Predator drones from the United States and the construction of two nuclear submarines under Project ATV for the Indian Navy. The committee has also sanctioned the development of infrastructure such as roads and space-based capabilities for the forces.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is advancing in the development of numerous weapon systems. These include Very Short Range Air Defence Systems, man-portable anti-tank guided missiles, quick reaction surface-to-air missile systems, and vertical launched short-range air defence systems. The DRDO will also contribute significantly to the construction of the newly approved nuclear submarines.
