Doctors Nationwide Boycott Services in Solidarity with West Bengal Colleagues

The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has announced a nationwide boycott of elective medical services starting October 14, 2024. This action is in support of West Bengal doctors protesting the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The protest has been ongoing for over 65 days, demanding safer working conditions and highlighting the West Bengal government’s neglect of doctors on an indefinite hunger strike.

FAIMA is urging medical associations and resident doctors across the country to join the boycott. They demand action and safety for healthcare professionals in West Bengal and nationwide. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has called on BJP workers and the people of West Bengal to support the doctors’ protest, criticizing the state government for not fulfilling promises made to the doctors.

In a show of solidarity, around 50 senior doctors and faculty members of RG Kar Medical College have resigned, supporting their junior colleagues on hunger strike. The protest aims to address the increasing violence against doctors and ensure their safety.
