Shashi Tharoor Celebrates Vidyarambham with Children in Kerala

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor participated in the Vidyarambham celebrations at Sree Saraswathi Temple. This event marks the beginning of learning for young children, coinciding with the end of the Navaratri festival. Tharoor guided children in writing their first letters, a tradition dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. Thousands of children across Kerala were initiated into the world of letters on this auspicious day.

Significance of Vidyarambham

Vidyarambham, observed on Vijayadasami, is a significant ritual in Kerala where children, typically aged two to three, are introduced to learning. Respected figures like scholars, writers, and priests help children write ‘HariSree’ on rice platters or trace it on their tongues with a golden ring. This symbolizes the start of their educational journey.

Statewide Celebrations

Governor Arif Mohammed Khan also participated in a Vidyarambham ceremony at Kerala Raj Bhavan, assisting children with their first letters. Similar ceremonies were held at Dakshina Mookambika Temple in North Paravur, Ernakulam, and other locations across the state.
