Free Balochistan Movement’s Awareness Campaign in the UK
The Free Balochistan Movement (FBM), a group advocating for Baloch rights, conducted a month-long campaign in the UK to highlight human rights violations in Balochistan. The campaign began on August 30 in Edinburgh during the Scottish National Party’s annual conference. FBM activists informed SNP members about the issues in Balochistan, distributed leaflets, and collected signatures for a petition supporting Balochistan’s independence.
On September 14, the campaign moved to Brighton, focusing on the Liberal Democrats. Former leaders like Lord Sir Vince Cable and Tim Farron were briefed on Balochistan’s history and its struggle against occupation by Iran and Pakistan. This phase ended on September 17.
From September 22 to 25, the campaign targeted Labour Party members in Liverpool. High-ranking delegates, including the UK Attorney General and Foreign Affairs ministers, were briefed on the Baloch national struggle. Thousands of leaflets were distributed.
In Birmingham, from September 29 to October 2, FBM engaged with the Conservative Party, the official opposition in the British Parliament. Members were informed about the atrocities against the Baloch people by Iran and Pakistan.
The campaign featured a leaflet titled ‘Balochistan: A Country in Pieces, A Nation in Resistance’, detailing Balochistan’s history and recent human rights violations. The campaign was well-received, with political party representatives expressing solidarity with the Baloch cause. The head of FBM’s Foreign Affairs Department emphasized their commitment to raising awareness about the Baloch struggle for independence.
