On October 12, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 74 infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at a cost of Rs 2236 crore. These projects include 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other projects spread across 11 Indian states and union territories.

Project Locations

The projects are located in Jammu and Kashmir (19), Arunachal Pradesh (18), Ladakh (11), Uttarakhand (9), Sikkim (6), Himachal Pradesh (5), West Bengal (2), Rajasthan (2), Nagaland (1), Mizoram (1), and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1).

Significance of the Projects

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla participated virtually from Shimla. He emphasized the strategic importance of these roads for troop and equipment movement to the Indo-China border and their role in local socio-economic development. The projects were completed in challenging weather and terrain, with some finished in a single working season using advanced technology.

Details of the Inauguration

The inauguration ceremony took place in Sikkim, where the Defence Minister highlighted the completion of 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other projects. Five bridges in Himachal Pradesh were specifically mentioned, located on NH-3, NH-5, and NH-505.

Governor Shukla praised the BRO for their dedication and efficiency in completing these critical projects. The event was attended by CP Verma, Secretary to the Governor, Rajeev Kumar, Chief Engineer Project Deepak, BRO, and other senior officers.
