Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Leads Indian Delegation to 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva
New Delhi, India – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to lead a Parliamentary Delegation to the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, taking place from October 13 to 17. The delegation includes notable members such as Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, and several Members of Parliament including Bhartruhari Mahtab, Anurag Singh Thakur, Rajeev Shukla, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Aparajita Sarangi, Sasmit Patra, Mamata Mohanta, along with Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, and PC Mody, Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha.
Om Birla will address the Assembly on the theme “Harnessing science, technology and innovation for a more peaceful and sustainable future.” He will also participate in the meetings of the IPU’s Governing Council, which is the highest decision-making body of the IPU. The Indian Parliamentary Delegation will engage in various meetings, including those of the Executive Committee and the four Standing Committees, as well as other working sessions during the conference.
Additionally, Om Birla will meet with his counterparts from other parliaments and address the Indian diaspora in Geneva on October 14, 2024. The IPU consists of 180 member parliaments and 15 associate members, representing countries both large and small, such as China, India, Indonesia, Cabo Verde, San Marino, and Palau.
