Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Dedicates 75 Infrastructure Projects
On October 12, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) worth Rs 2,236 crore. These projects include 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other structures across 11 Indian states and union territories. The projects aim to enhance border infrastructure and socio-economic development.
Key Projects and Locations
The projects are spread across Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. A significant highlight is the Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim, linking Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and Zuluk axis.
Government’s Vision and Achievements
Rajnath Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening border infrastructure, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. With these projects, BRO has completed 111 infrastructure projects in 2024, costing Rs 3,751 crore. Last year, 125 projects were completed at Rs 3,611 crore.
Future Plans and Budget
The government plans to further enhance border infrastructure, supported by an increased allocation of Rs 6,500 crore for BRO in the Union Budget 2024-25. Singh highlighted the strategic and socio-economic importance of these developments, especially in the North East region.
He assured that India will continue to progress and become one of the safest and strongest nations.
