Rocket Attacks from Lebanon During Yom Kippur in Israel
On October 12, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported multiple rocket launches from Lebanon since the start of the Yom Kippur fast. Two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) crossed into central Israel, with one hitting a civilian building and the other intercepted. This marks the first active war on Yom Kippur since 1973.
Israel was on high alert, with ongoing combat operations in Lebanon and Gaza. Over 120 rockets were fired at Israel, mostly intercepted, with no reported injuries. The IDF Home Front Command urged citizens to use special warning systems for rocket and missile alerts.
Yom Kippur, a 25-hour period of fasting and prayer, began at 5:51 pm in Tel Aviv and will end at 6:48 pm on Saturday. Despite the conflict, Israel observed traditional shutdowns, including halting flights and trains, and closing border crossings.
Israeli troops are currently engaged in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon, with increased security in the West Bank. Hospitals are on emergency footing, and the police are on high alert following recent terror attacks.
