Special Train Rescues Passengers After Bagmati Express Collision Near Chennai
A special train departed from Dr MGR Chennai Central railway station early Saturday morning, carrying passengers stranded after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station. The train left at 4:45 am, and passengers were provided with food and water during their wait.
Accident Details
The collision occurred on Friday night around 8:30 p.m. on the Chennai-Gudur section, leading to the derailment of 12 coaches and injuring 19 passengers. Train services were disrupted, resulting in the cancellation of two trains and the diversion of several others.
Response and Assistance
The railways set up a help desk at Chennai Central Railway Station to assist affected passengers and issued helpline numbers. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock and is monitoring rescue operations. He confirmed that the injured were taken to the hospital and that a team is providing food and travel arrangements for other passengers.
Government Actions
Minister for Minorities SM Nasar and other officials were directed to the accident site. The fire department is working to remove derailed coaches. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai.
