On Friday night, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express train collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. The train, traveling from Mysuru to Darbhanga, mistakenly entered a loop line where the goods train was parked, leading to the collision.

Details of the Incident

Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh explained that the train was supposed to pass through the main line without stopping, but it unexpectedly entered the loop line. The collision caused the engine to derail, but fortunately, the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot were unharmed.

Rescue Operations

Rescue teams from the railway, fire department, railway police, and state police, along with ambulances and railway doctors, were dispatched to the scene. District Collector T Prabhushankar reported that 19 passengers were injured, with four sustaining severe injuries. All injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital and are stable.

Impact on Train Services

The accident led to the derailment of 12 coaches and affected train movement on the Chennai-Gudur section. Over half a dozen trains were diverted, and helpline numbers were issued for assistance.
