Subhash Prasad Gupta Appointed as High Commissioner to St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Subhash Prasad Gupta, who is currently serving as the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Suriname, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He will continue to reside in Paramaribo, Suriname. This announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.

Gupta is an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2006 batch. He is expected to assume his new role shortly. Earlier in July, Gupta was appointed as India’s Ambassador to Suriname.

India and Suriname’s Diplomatic Relations

India and Suriname have a long-standing relationship, strengthened by cultural ties and the Indian Diaspora, which dates back over 150 years. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1976, with embassies in Paramaribo and New Delhi opening in 1977 and 2000, respectively.

There have been several high-level visits between the two nations. In 2023, President Droupadi Murmu made her first foreign visit to Suriname at the invitation of President Santokhi, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral relations.
