Iltija Mufti’s Stand on Article 370 and Statehood in Jammu and Kashmir
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Iltija Mufti, a leader from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed her commitment to advocating for the restoration of statehood and Article 370, along with resolving other issues in the region. Despite losing the assembly elections in the Srigufwara-Brijbehara constituency, she extended her best wishes to the National Conference (NC) and Congress as they form the new government after winning the polls.
Mufti acknowledged the large voter turnout and the simple majority achieved by the NC-Congress alliance, urging them to fulfill their promises. She emphasized that the PDP will continue to fight for the restoration and resolution of Jammu and Kashmir’s issues, including the revival of the Darbar Move, a bi-annual shift of government offices between Jammu and Srinagar, which she believes is significant for cultural and trade reasons.
Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, criticized the BJP for not securing enough seats and urged them to respect the electoral mandate. The NC-Congress alliance won 48 seats, with NC taking 42 and Congress 6, marking the first election since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
