CPI (M) Leader Criticizes BJP Over Jai Prakash Narayan Centre Visit

In New Delhi, CPI (M) Leader Hannan Mollah criticized the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh for not allowing Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav to visit the Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow on the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter. Mollah called this restriction an insult to Jai Prakash Narayan’s memory, who was known for his respect for democracy and secularism.

Reasons for Restriction

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) stated that JPNIC is an active construction site with scattered materials, posing safety hazards. Despite this, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of preventing socialists from paying tribute to Jai Prakash Narayan. He garlanded a statue of Narayan outside the JPNIC and alleged that the government plans to sell the museum.

Political Reactions

Akhilesh Yadav urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to withdraw support from the government, claiming it disrespects socialists. He criticized the UP government for being “dumb, deaf, and blind” and accused them of committing “Adharm” on Ramnavami. Yadav argued that if security was a concern, he should have been allowed to visit with security.

BJP’s Response

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Akhilesh Yadav of politicizing the issue, stating that the SP has forgotten Jai Prakash Narayan’s ideals. He suggested that Yadav could have paid tribute from his office if he had good intentions.
