Former PM Manmohan Singh Mourns the Loss of Ratan Tata

On October 10, former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, expressed his sorrow over the passing of Ratan Tata, a visionary industrialist known for his integrity and philanthropy. In a heartfelt letter to N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Singh shared his fond memories of working with Tata, who passed away at 86 on October 9 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Singh praised Tata for his courage to speak truth to power and his contributions to numerous charitable causes. He extended his deepest condolences, wishing for Tata’s soul to rest in peace.

Leaders across India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed their condolences. Ratan Tata’s body is at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai for public respects before the funeral. Maharashtra has declared a day of mourning, and the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has proposed awarding Tata the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.

Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, Ratan Tata led the Tata Group as Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and was later named Chairman Emeritus. He was also the Chairman of the Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, major philanthropic organizations. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
