Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ratan Tata, a respected industrial leader. Ratan Tata, who was the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at 86 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Somanath highlighted Tata’s ethical business practices and his significant contributions to education and philanthropy, noting his own education at the Tata-funded Indian Institute of Science.

The public can pay their respects to Ratan Tata at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai before the funeral. The Maharashtra government has declared a day of mourning, and leaders across India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed their condolences.

Ratan Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, led Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and was later named Chairman Emeritus. He was also the Chairman of the Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, major philanthropic organizations. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
