Gujarat’s Lothal to Host World’s Largest Maritime Heritage Complex, Says CM Bhupendra Patel

World’s Largest Maritime Heritage Complex to be Built in Lothal, Gujarat

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the union cabinet approved the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) project in Lothal, Gujarat. CM Patel highlighted that the NMHC will boost regional growth and benefit local communities, tourists, researchers, and various organizations.

Job Creation and Unique Features

The complex is expected to create 22,000 jobs, both direct and indirect. It will feature a Lighthouse Museum, shipbuilding experiences, and a recreation of the old Lothal town, offering visitors a unique historical journey.

Project Phases and Development

The NMHC project will be developed in phases. Phase 1A is over 60% complete and expected to finish by 2025. The project will include galleries, a maritime-themed eco-resort, and more. The Union Cabinet has approved Phases 1B and 2, with funding from voluntary contributions.

Management and Future Plans

A separate society will oversee the NMHC’s development, led by the Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The project aims to showcase India’s rich maritime heritage and become a world-class museum.
