Taiwan’s Population Decline in September
In September, Taiwan experienced a slight decrease in its population, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior (MOI). By the end of the month, the population was recorded at 23,404,138, which is 2,470 fewer people than at the end of August.
Birth and Death Rates
The decline is primarily due to a lower birth rate of 6.15 per 1,000 people, compared to a higher death rate of 8.11 per 1,000. This imbalance contributed significantly to the population decrease.
Migration Impact
Although there was a net migration gain of 1,301 people, with 101,274 leaving and 102,575 entering Taiwan, it was not enough to counteract the effects of the birth and death rates.
Yearly Birth Statistics
So far this year, there have been 97,733 births, which is slightly less than the 99,652 births recorded during the same period last year. These statistics are based on household registration data.
