The Indian men’s table tennis team has achieved a remarkable feat by winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The team, comprising Manav Thakkar, Harmeet Desai, and Sharath Kamal, showcased their skills to reach the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, the Indian team defeated Kazakhstan’s players Kirill Gerassimenko, Alan Kurmangaliyev, and Aidos Kenzhigulov with a 3-1 victory. Manav Thakkar won against Gerassimenko 3-0, Sharath Kamal triumphed over Kenzhigulov 3-0, and Harmeet Desai secured the win with a 3-2 victory over Gerassimenko, despite an earlier loss to Kurmangaliyev.

The Indian women’s team also made history by winning a bronze medal, marking the country’s first-ever in the women’s team category at the Asian Table Tennis Championships. In the semifinals, India lost 1-3 to Japan. Ayhika Mukherjee narrowly lost to Miwa Harimoto, while Manika Batra won against Satsuki Odo. However, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Manika Batra were defeated in their matches, leading to Japan’s victory.
