Victory in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has extended his congratulations to the National Conference-Congress alliance for their success in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. He emphasized that this victory is a step towards restoring the “dignity” and statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, which he claims was “unjustly stripped away” by the Union government.

Stalin expressed his sentiments on social media, stating, “Congratulations to the JKNC-INC alliance and the people of Jammu & Kashmir on the stupendous victory! This is more than just a win for #INDIA and democracy–it’s a mandate to fulfil the aspirations of restoring the dignity and statehood of Jammu and Kashmir that the Union BJP Government unjustly stripped away.”

The National Conference-Congress alliance secured an absolute majority by winning 48 out of 90 seats in the assembly. The National Conference led the charge with 42 seats, while Congress won six. The BJP also performed well, securing 29 seats. Other parties like PDP, People’s Conference, Aam Aadmi Party, and CPI(M) won a few seats each, with independents taking seven seats.

This election was significant as it was the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, marking a decade since Jammu and Kashmir last elected a new Assembly.

Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, highlighted the responsibility of the new government to foster a “sense of belonging” among the people of Jammu. He stressed the importance of building relations with the central government to address the region’s issues.
