On October 8, Lionel Messi expressed his deep appreciation for his former Barcelona teammate, Andres Iniesta, who announced his retirement from professional football. Messi shared a heartfelt message on social media, praising Iniesta as one of the most magical teammates he had the pleasure of playing with. Iniesta, known for scoring the World Cup-winning goal for Spain in 2010, retired on a date significant to him, as he wore the number 8 jersey throughout his career. His time at Barcelona lasted until 2018, with 674 appearances after rising through the La Masia academy.
There was speculation about a reunion between Messi and Iniesta at Inter Miami, but it did not happen. Meanwhile, Messi is preparing for his playoff debut with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Inter Miami recently won their first Supporters’ Shield and will play their first postseason match on October 25 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
