In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference (NC), greeted his supporters from his balcony as the NC-Congress alliance showed a strong lead in the Assembly vote counting. As of 11:40 AM on Tuesday, the Election Commission of India reported that the alliance was leading with 52 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading with 26 seats.

The election results will determine the future of several former ministers, including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, and Omar Abdullah. Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief Tariq Hameed Karra expressed confidence in the alliance’s success, stating that their goal is to surpass 50 seats and keep the BJP at bay. He criticized the nomination of five MLA seats by the Lieutenant Governor as an attempt to manipulate the majority.

Karra, leading from the Central Shalteng Assembly constituency, emphasized the alliance’s mission to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He is currently ahead by 10,263 votes after nine rounds of counting.
