35th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship Begins in Bhubaneswar

The 35th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship is being held from October 7 to 9 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This event is organized by the Sports and Youth Services Department in collaboration with the Odisha Athletics Association and under the Athletics Federation of India.

Participating States and Athletes

A total of 12 states, including Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur, are participating. Over 600 young athletes are competing in various track and field events. Bihar has the largest team with 134 athletes, while Nagaland has the smallest with 5 athletes. Odisha is represented by 115 athletes.

Training and Preparation

Many athletes from the Odisha-Reliance Foundation Athletics High-Performance Centre and sports hostels are participating. Captain Dinesh mentioned that this event serves as a preparatory meet for the upcoming junior national athletics championships at the end of October.

Government Support

Suryabanshi Suraj, a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, expressed his excitement about hosting the event, aligning with the vision to make Odisha a hub for national and international sports events. He wished all participants success.
